Triol AT23 variable frequency drive A medium voltage drive, adapted to be fed and loaded by transformers.
Purpose: The Triol AT23 electric drives are intended for the automated controlling rotation frequency and torque of production machines and mechanisms with three-phase asynchronous motors, rated in the 250-1600 kW power range, voltage class 6 kV.
The Triol AT23 variable frequency drive operates in both manual and automatic mode.
The Triol AT23 electric drive has a developed external interface, which allows its adaptation to up-to-date automatic systems. This device can be used as a basis for creating automatic control systems for different mechanisms.
The advantages of the Triol AT23 electric drive are as follows:
- Wide range of functional capabilities (up to 500 programmable parameters);
- Programmable frequency of pulse-width modulation: 2 – 6 kHz;
- Embedded and remote control panels with LCD;
- Six programmable digital inputs (10 mA, Resistance of the load – 2 kOhm);
- Six programmable digital outputs (250 V, 3 A);
- Four galvanically non-connected, programmable analog inputs (0 – 5 mA, 0(4) – 20 mA, 0 – 10 V);
- Two programmable analog outputs (0 – 5 mA, 0(4) – 20 mA, 0 – 10 V);
- Two channels for a RS485 serial connection (for one cabinet variant); and
- Channel for a RS232 serial connection (external RS485/232 converter is in the delivered set).
The Triol AT23 electric drive features an embedded Triol UMKA-03 controller. The controller contains a keyboard, which enables controlling operational modes and sets the program parameters. The controllers’ indication and signaling units allow displaying the set value parameters and diagnosing.

- Environmental temperature – from -60 °С to +50 °С;
- Relative air humidity at temperature of +25 °С – 100%;
- By content of corrosion-active components – type 2 atmosphere in compliance with GOST 15150:
- a) Sulfur dioxide gas – from 20 mg/m² per day to 250 mg/m² per day (from 0.025 mg/m³ to 0.31 mg/m³);
- b) Chlorides – 0.3 mg/m per day or less;

If the exploitation temperature of the electric drive is less than -20 °С, it is provided with additional heating circuits.

Index of protection – IP 43 according to IEC 60529. At the customer’s request, the Triol AT23 electric drive can be implemented in relation to the following indexes of protection: IP00, IP21, IP54.
Modes of operation The Triol AT23 variable frequency drives are able to operate in both manual and automatic modes.
The drive processes the output frequency value, which has been set via the control console or the automated control system. The rotation frequency of electric motor is thereby controlled.
The frequency is regulated in a closed loop system. Control is exercised by using the embedded PID control. This approach is based on signals from feedback sensors (i.e. the speed sensor, sensor for the process-dependent parameter). The rotation speed of the rotor may be changed in order to maintain a specified system parameter (flow rate, pressure, temperature, etc.), which makes it possible to optimize the motor’s operation in line with actual operating conditions. A signal from a correspondent sensor is directly sent to the variable frequency drive.
Function of controlling a set of electric motors This function enables controlling several electric motors in parallel by using one Triol AT23 VFD. Each electric motor is led to a preset mode and then is switched over to the mains. The Triol AT23 VFD can be programmed for alternate controlling electric motors, in line with the chosen control algorithm.
Protection
The Triol AT23 variable frequency drive entails in-built protection against emergencies and abnormal modes. This offers protections against:
- Currents of prohibitive overload and short circuiting (including ground short circuiting);
- Abnormal overvoltage at power units;
- Fault values or loss of mains’ voltage;
- Open-phase operation mode of a main or electric motor;
- Prohibited divergence of a technological parameter;
- The failure of the drive’s sub-units; and
- Unauthorized access to programmable parameters.
Construction embodiment
- The Triol AT23 electric drive is assembled in a two-sided maintenance metallic cabinet. Index of protection – IP43 according to IEC 529:1989 (GOST 14254).
- At a lower part, the cabinet has supports, ensuringa stable position when mounting on a production floor. The supports are holed, which allow affixing the electric drive with the help of anchor bolts.
- On the upper cover of the cabinet, there are accessories for strapping.
- The cabinet doors are equipped with special locks and seals, which provide the necessary index of protection. Doorstops fix the doors when they are opened.
- TheTriol AT23 electric drive’s cabinet consists of a power component and a control system.
