Triol AK06-ASPED variable speed drive
Intellectual variable speed drive for electric submersible pumps.
Purpose: Triol AK06-ASPED VSD is intended to control and protect electric submersible pumping units (ESPU) with a nominal power from 16 to 1450 kW. Intellectual operating modes increase oil yield, decrease power consumption and reduce downtime.
Main Features:
ASPED enables launching the well, applying one of the following modes: In cycles Launches the well using on-off preset cycles. The operator determines the number and duration of each cycle, launching is complete after the cycles are finished or upon reaching sufficient well inflow. Operates with or without submersible telemetry unit.
Programmed Launches the well by efficiently raising the output frequency. The operator determines the time of the launch starting and final frequency. Doesn’t require a submersible telemetry unit.
Soft launch Used in wells with a high percentage of solid material and in wells after hydraulic fracturing. Requires a submersible telemetry unit.
The maximum yield is achieved by changing the output frequency in response to preset parameters and the current state of the oil well.
The Triol AK06-ASPED can avoid the following emergency stoppages: - Underload: the Triol AK06-ASPED detects load reduction due to a high gas concentration or low liquid level and, in this case, this device changes the output frequency to avoid underload emergency stoppage.
- Overload: when load increases above nominal, the Triol AK06-ASPED switches to current regulator mode – output frequency adjustment to maintain a current less than nominal.
- ESP overheating emergency is avoided by choosing minimum output frequency sufficient for liquid pumping and ESP cooling.
- Low supply voltage: intellectual algorithms enable the drive to operate at a supply voltage up to 50% less than nominal voltage. This is possible by adjusting the output frequency in accordance with the supply voltage.
If the well inflow falls below ESP’s nominal rating, the Triol AK06-ASPED switches to periodic operating mode, automatically setting on/off cycles time. After the inflow is back to the rated level, the Triol AK06-ASPED switches back to continuous operating mode.
The following operating modes of the Triol AK06-ASPED increase well inflow and avoid the decrease of pump's head and flow rate: - The “jogging” mode is activated when the ESP vibration level rises in an attempt to eliminate the possible cause of vibration;
- Changing depression on the reservoir for a short time period;
- “Surging” mode: periodical change in reservoir depression.
Sending the energy consumption data and submersible telemetry measured parameters to the upper control system simplifies well automation.
The Triol AK06-ASPED performs the following duties: - Automates the start process – Start in the presence of turbine rotation, soft launch, automatic unjamming;
- “Cyclic duty” mode with automatic on/off time regulation.
The Triol AK06-ASPED can produce a savings of up to 6% in terms of power consumption. This is achieved by choosing the optimal V/F characteristics for the minimum current consumption. The “current optimization” mode changes the output voltage to get the minimum full load current at a fixed output frequency.

The Triol AK06 offers the following functions:
- Soft start and stop of the motor with preset acceleration and braking rate (Hz/s);
- “Manual”, “Automatic” or “Automatic with preset time” modes determine whether the motor starts automatically after a fault occurs or awaits the operator’s command;
- "Catch on the fly" mode starts ESP when the forced counter-rotation is induced by the load on the pump (turbine rotation). The Triol AK06 smoothly reduces the shaft's rotation speed and then reverses it to the forward direction without the current overload. In oil extraction, this mode allows immediately starting the motor, rather than waiting for the oil to drain back into the pipe and for the turbine rotation to eventually stop gearing;
- “Current optimization” mode changes the output voltage to get the minimum full load current at fixed output frequency;
- Start and stop according to a preset time configuration;
- Local and distant operating parameter control;
- Change output frequency according to a preset time configuration;
- Operating the motor in field weakening region by raising the output frequency above nominal;
- Starting ESP after supply is delivered after a preset time;
- Maintaining a preset technological parameter (pressure, ESM current, liquid level, vibration, ESM load);
- Starting ESP in “swinging” mode; “kick start swinging” mode can be used to unblock ESP in the case of mechanical jamming;
- “Soft start with synchronization” holds a frequency for a preset time upon starting and then continues to start operation;
- Starting ESP in the “unjamming” mode delivers maximum torque at low frequency;
- Continuous monitoring of ESP isolation resistance and turning the motor off when isolation drops under a certain preset value;
The Triol AK06 protects ESPs from the following:
- Short circuit current;
- Underload;
- Overload;
- Low “cable – ESP chassis” insulation resistance;
- High ESP temperature (with submersible telemetry);
- Low base oil pressure (using submersible telemetry);
- High vibration level (using submersible telemetry);
- High pipeline pressure (using contact pressure gauge);
- ESM current unbalance; and
- Start while turbine rotation is present.
