Triol AK06
       Variable speed drive for electric submersible pumps

General Description

       Purpose:
     Triol AK06 VSD is intended to control and protect electric submersible pumping units (ESPU) with nominal power from 16 to 1450 kW. The Triol AK06 provides open-loop scalar control (V/f control) for induction or synchronous motors and sensorless control for brushless DC motors.

       Main Features:

Various operation modes simplify well automation   Manual mode:
Allows the user to operate the drive directly from the control panel.

Automatic operation modes:

  • Pressure regulation: maintains preset annular, suction, wellhead or line pressure (using submersible telemetric unit)
  • Current regulation: maintains a preset output current

Soft start and braking:
Soft starting the motor reduces the inrush current and extends the ESPU life.

Submersible motor protection   The Triol AK06 stops the motor under the following conditions:
  • Interruption in oil extraction (underload protection);
  • Supply network disturbances;
  • Current overload;
  • Low ESP insulation resistance;
  • High pipeline pressure (by a signal from a contact pressure gauge); and
  • ESP overheating (using a submersible telemetric unit).

Easy operation and service   The menu of the UMKA-03 controller can be adapted to the user’s preferences. The construction of the Triol AK06 is designed to ease the operation and repair onsite under different climatic conditions.

Extends ESPU life   The embedded output sine filter delivers pure sinusoidal voltage and current to the motor, which reduces motor derating and reduces transformer overheating in the case that one is used one between the drive and the motor.

Operates under severe climate conditions   The Triol AK06 offers a protection level of IP43 and an operating temperature range from minus 60°C to plus 50 °C. The device has an effective climate control system with both heating and cooling capabilities, depending on the temperature inside the different sections of the drive.

Reduces power consumption using intellectual operating modes
The use of intellectual algorithms (ASPED) allows saving about 6% of consumed power. This is achieved by choosing the optimal output voltage at a fixed output frequency while obtaining the maximum oil exctraction yield.

Low harmonic distortion in input current
Frequency drives with an active input rectifier consumes a sinusoidal current with a total harmonic distortion less than 5%.

Functionality

       The Triol AK06 offers the following functions:

  • Soft start and stop of the motor with preset acceleration and braking rate (Hz/s);
  • “Manual”, “Automatic” or “Automatic with preset time” modes determine whether the motor starts automatically after a fault occurs or awaits the operator’s command;
  • "Catch on the fly" mode starts ESP when the forced counter-rotation is induced by the load on the pump (turbine rotation). The Triol AK06 smoothly reduces the shaft's rotation speed and then reverses it to the forward direction without the current overload. In oil extraction, this mode allows immediately starting the motor, rather than waiting for the oil to drain back into the pipe and for the turbine rotation to eventually stop gearing;
  • “Current optimization” mode changes the output voltage to get the minimum full load current at fixed output frequency;
  • Start and stop according to a preset time configuration;
  • Local and distant operating parameter control;
  • Change output frequency according to a preset time configuration;
  • Operating the motor in field weakening region by raising the output frequency above nominal;
  • Starting ESP after supply is delivered after a preset time;
  • Maintaining a preset technological parameter (pressure, ESM current, vibration, liquid level, ESM load);
  • Starting ESP in “swinging” mode; “kick start swinging” mode can be used to unblock ESP in the case of mechanical jamming;
  • “Soft start with synchronization” holds a frequency for a preset time upon starting and then continues to start operation;
  • Starting ESP in the “unjamming” mode delivers maximum torque at low frequency;
  • Continuous monitoring of ESP isolation resistance and turning the motor off when isolation drops under a certain preset value;

       The Triol AK06 protects ESPs from the following:

  • High current;
  • Underload;
  • Overload;
  • Low “cable – ESP chassis” insulation resistance;
  • High ESP temperature (with submersible telemetry);
  • Low base oil pressure (using submersible telemetry);
  • High vibration level (using submersible telemetry); and
  • High pipeline pressure (using contact pressure gauge).
