Triol AK02 soft starter
       Soft starter drive for asynchronous electric submersible pumps

General Description

       Purpose:

Triol AK02 is intended to control and protect electric submersible pumping units (ESPU) with a nominal power from 16 to 500 kW. The drive provides reduced voltage soft start or direct start for induction (asynchronous) motors.

       Main Features:

Submersible motor protection   The Triol AK02 stops the motor under the following conditions:
  • The interruption in oil extraction (underload protection);
  • Supply network disturbances;
  • Current overload;
  • Low ESP insulation resistance;
  • High pipeline pressure (by a signal from a contact pressure gauge); and
  • ESP overheating (using submersible telemetric unit).

Extends ESPU life   The Triol AK02 provides a soft, unstressed motor start with the ability to adjust the inrush current in the range of 80-400% of the drive nominal current. This extends the ESPU life and allows using transformers with less power delivering capability and less expensive commutation devices.

Unjamming ESP   A high percentage of solid material in extracted oil may cause ESP jamming. In this case, the Triol AK02 stops the motor due to current overload. To start working again, the Triol AK02 can “kick start” the motor by applying pulses with a rated voltage amplitude in order to release (unjam) the ESP. For starting the motor under extreme load conditions, the direct start can be applied.

Easy operation and service   The Triol AK02’s construction is designed to ease operation and repair on-site under different climatic conditions.

Operates under severe climate conditions The Triol AK02 has a protection level of IP43 and an operating temperature range from minus 60°Cto plus 50 °C. This device has an effective climate control system with both heating and cooling capabilities, depending on the temperature inside the different sections of the drive.

Functionality

       The Triol AK02 offers the following functions:

  • Soft start of the motor using reduced voltage method; direct start is also applicable;
  • “Kick start” mode allows starting ESPs under extreme load conditions (jamming) by delivering pulses with nominal voltage amplitude to the motor;
  • “Manual”, “Automatic” or “Automatic with preset time” modes determine whether the motor starts automatically after a fault occurs or awaits the operator’s command;
  • Start and stop according to preset time configurations;
  • Block motor starting in the presence of turbine rotation;
  • Local and distant operating parameter control;
  • Starting ESP after supply is delivered after a preset time; and
  • Continuous monitoring of ESP isolation resistance and turning the motor off when isolation drops under a certain preset value.

       The Triol AK02 protects ESPs from the following:

  • Short circuit currentt;
  • Supply voltage unbalance;
  • Underload;
  • Overload;
  • Low “cable – ESP chassis” insulation resistance;
  • High ESP temperature (with submersible telemetry);
  • Low base oil pressure (using submersible telemetry);
  • High vibration level (using submersible telemetry);
  • High pipeline pressure (using contact pressure gauge);
  • ESM current unbalance; and
  • Start while turbine rotation is present.
